The great spring flea market of the village of Méré, in the Chevreuse valley
Each spring, the small town of Méré, nestled in the western Yvelines between Montfort-l'Amaury and the Rambouillet forest, hosts its all-purpose fair on Square Raoul Breton. With around 120 private exhibitors, this friendly event attracts bargain hunters from surrounding villages and flea market lovers from all over the Paris region for a day of outdoor deals.
In the rolling landscape of the Yvelines, on the edge of the regional park of the Upper Chevreuse Valley, the town of Méré hosts its foire à tout every spring. The event takes place on Square Raoul Breton, in the heart of the village, and brings together around 120 private exhibitors who come to empty their attics, cellars and garages. Organized by the municipality and the festival committee, this event is part of the tradition of the great village fairs that shape local life in the rural Yvelines.
Visitors walk through the shaded aisles in search of eclectic items: old crockery, clothing, toys, tools, books, old records, furniture and small pieces, trinkets, children's clothes, garden equipment, sports items. The diversity of the stalls and the quality of the objects on offer, often from local family collections, make the charm of this fair where you can find both the flea market piece and the simple curiosity at a low price.
With fewer than 2,000 inhabitants, Méré has managed to preserve its rural character despite its proximity to the Paris metropolitan area. The village is crossed by beautiful hiking trails, bordered by meadows and woods, and is home to a few ancient remains including a remarkable church. The neighboring town of Montfort-l'Amaury, a listed medieval city, is just a few minutes away and is an ideal complement to a visit to the fair.
Admission is free for all visitors, and the fair traditionally takes place on Sunday all day. Families come in large numbers, children enjoy the fairground atmosphere, and seasoned bargain hunters always hope to unearth the rare pearl among the displays.
