The Selkies du Pays Bigouden — an artistic swimming club from Pont-l'Abbé — organize their big swap meet every year in Pont-l'Abbé. With over 200 exhibitors in the best editions, this event is one of the most popular in the Pays Bigouden. Individuals and professionals offer clothing, toys, books, tableware, decor, and various items in a warm and family atmosphere.
Founded in November 2022 by Jérémy Kologrecki, a swimming instructor at the Aquasud swimming pool in Pont-l'Abbé and holder of a state swimming diploma, the Selkies du Pays Bigouden club aims to develop and promote artistic swimming in the Pays Bigouden. Artistic swimming, a discipline combining grace, technique, and musicality, is still not widespread in Breton clubs, and the Selkies are committed to making it known and loved by as many people as possible.
As with any amateur sports club, organizing fundraising events is essential to cover the costs associated with the activity: outfits, travel for competitions, booking pool time. The swap meet has become one of these essential levers, and its friendliness has quickly built a loyal community of participants.
Exhibitors benefit from tables and chairs provided by the organization, simplifying their setup. Upon arrival, a coffee, hot chocolate, or tea is offered, a small gesture that sets the warm tone of the event. Visitors can browse the aisles in search of bargains, all in a welcoming atmosphere.
To register as an exhibitor, it is possible to choose one or two tables depending on needs. Registrations are made via HelloAsso on the association's page. The event generally starts at 8 a.m. and attracts a large crowd from all over the Pays Bigouden.
Pont-l'Abbé is the capital of the Pays Bigouden, a territory located at the southern tip of Finistère, between the Iroise Sea and the Bay of Audierne. Renowned for its Bigouden headdresses — the tallest in the world — its strong cultural identity, its wild coasts, and its fishing villages, the Pays Bigouden is one of the most authentic territories in Brittany. Its sports association network is very active, and clubs like the Selkies contribute to developing new practices while drawing on local traditions of solidarity and conviviality.
