Tourves's annual flea market

Tourves is a characterful Var village between Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume and Brignoles in Provence Verte. Dominated by the imposing ruins of Valbelle medieval castle, a witness to an aristocratic past, it keeps a picturesque old centre and typical farming terroir. Each May, the town organises its annual flea market, a traditional Provence Verte hunter rendezvous.

Venue has evolved: Cours de la République long hosted ~60 sellers; recent editions sometimes moved to Boulevard des Berges, a newer axis with more space and parking.

Tourves, a character village

Worth the detour. Valbelle castle ruins perched above offer a fine Provence Verte view. Place Gueit, fountain, Saint-Pierre church, sloping alleys — a living village, not museum-like. Wine cooperative and Côtes de Provence wineries for tastings.

From A8 (Saint-Maximin or Brignoles exit) then old N7. Park on outskirts on flea-market day. Cash, sturdy bag, hat. Centre cafés and restaurants open.

Active Provence Verte network

Provence Verte, between Sainte-Baume and Maures, concentrates many flea markets. A motivated hunter can chain Tourves, Rougiers, Mazaugues, Nans-les-Pins, Camps-la-Source in a single May — human-scale rendezvous showing another face of the Var.
