Spring flea market in the Othis municipal dojo, at the gateway to the Plaine de France
The Othis Dojo Flea Market is an intimate late-spring event, held every year at the end of May in this commune in the north of Seine-et-Marne, on the borders of Oise and Val-d'Oise. Held inside the municipal dojo, this flea market offers a covered setting appreciated by exhibitors and visitors alike, guaranteeing the smooth running of the event regardless of the weather. Between antiques, trinkets and bargains, this human-scale village flea market attracts local bargain hunters and residents of the Plaine de France.
At the end of May, the commune of Othis, located at the extreme north of Seine-et-Marne, holds its annual flea market in an original setting: the municipal dojo. This covered space, normally dedicated to martial arts and sports activities, is transformed for a day into a large flea market hall where exhibitors and visitors can stroll sheltered, whatever the weather outside. This particularity is the secret of the event's success: where many open-air flea markets are forced to cancel or shorten their day in bad weather, the Othis dojo event benefits from a serenity appreciated by all.
Unlike the large flea markets that mobilize hundreds of exhibitors over several hectares, the Othis dojo flea market retains an intimate, village dimension. This is precisely what gives it its charm: a reasonable number of carefully presented stalls, a relaxed atmosphere where exhibitors and visitors take the time to chat, and that family atmosphere typical of small local events. Bargain hunters who like to take the time to observe and discuss find it particularly rewarding.
As in any flea market worthy of the name, you can find a bit of everything: old crockery, glassware, decorative trinkets, books and records, vintage toys, small furniture, lamps, vintage household linen, old tools, old postcards, costume jewelry. A few more specialized exhibitors sometimes present finer collectibles, to the delight of enthusiasts. The diversity of merchandise allows everyone to shop according to their tastes and budget.
A commune of nearly 7,000 inhabitants located at the extreme north of the department, Othis belongs to the vast Plaine de France, the agricultural area that stretches between Paris, Roissy and Senlis. This part of Seine-et-Marne, more urbanized than the rest of the department due to the proximity of Charles-de-Gaulle airport and the Paris-North axis, nevertheless retains its rural and residential character. Residents appreciate this quality of life halfway between the capital and the countryside.
The organization of the flea market mobilizes the vital forces of local associations which, through this event, strengthen ties between residents and fund their year's activities. It is one of those events that, on a local scale, helps keep alive the tradition of community events, so important for social fabric and communal cohesion.
Visitors coming to browse in Othis can take advantage of their visit to discover the riches of the Seine-et-Marne Plaine de France: Dammartin-en-Goële and its Gothic collegiate church, Othis itself with its Saint-Symphorien church, the large parks and forests of the region such as the nearby Ermenonville forest, or the aeronautics museums linked to the proximity of Roissy. The region also offers beautiful bike rides in the agricultural villages that dot this cereal plain.
The Othis Dojo Flea Market takes place on Sunday 31 May 2026 at the municipal dojo. Admission is free for visitors. Parking is available nearby. Contact the town hall for exhibitor registration.
