12th flea market and local produce fair around the village hall of Griesbach in Gundershoffen
The Griesbach flea market and local produce fair is organized by the Cultural Association of Griesbach around the village hall at 3 rue de la Dime in Gundershoffen. In a typical Alsatian countryside setting, bargain hunters and exhibitors gather from 6 a.m. for a friendly day combining good deals and discovering local products. Refreshments, a bar and a hot meal featuring ham in Riesling sauce with potato salad are served throughout the day.
The Griesbach flea market and local produce fair is one of the must-see spring events in Gundershoffen, a town on the edge of the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park. Organized each year by the Cultural Association of Griesbach (ACG), it spreads out around the village hall in the hamlet of Griesbach, in a rural, welcoming setting that regulars particularly appreciate. From 6 a.m., exhibitors set up their stalls on rue de la Dime and around the village hall, turning this peaceful corner of Northern Alsace into a vast open-air market.
What sets the Griesbach flea market apart is its associated local produce market. Alongside individuals clearing out their attics, local producers present the region's specialties: honey, jams, farm cheeses, Alsatian charcuterie, sourdough breads, traditional pastries, Bas-Rhin wines and craft beers. Bargain hunters can combine discovering good deals with tasting authentic products. Vintage tableware, toys, books, clothes, small furniture, decorative items: there are countless treasures to discover at very affordable prices.
The ACG takes particular care of visitors. Refreshments and a bar liven up the day, offering hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, homemade pastries and sweet specialties. At noon, the traditional hot meal of ham in Riesling sauce and potato salad is served for 12 euros by reservation. Tables set up under a marquee allow visitors to eat in a family atmosphere, to the rhythm of conversations between bargain hunters, exhibitors and villagers.
Gundershoffen is a charming Bas-Rhin municipality of about 3,700 inhabitants, located some twenty kilometers northwest of Haguenau. Made up of the main village and the hamlets of Griesbach, Eberbach-Seltz and Schirlenhof, it lies at the foot of the Northern Vosges hills, in a preserved environment perfect for walking and cycling tours. The hamlet of Griesbach, crossed by the Zinsel du Nord river, retains its rural character with its half-timbered houses and parish church. The village hall on rue de la Dime is the gathering place for the village's community events.
