Village jumble organised by the Festival Committee
The Gonfaron Festival Committee flea market enlivens this Centre Var village in the Maures massif. Famed for its Tortoise Village and its vineyard, Gonfaron has a lively community life with the Festival Committee as a pillar. The annual vide-grenier gathers villagers around tableware, clothing, books, toys and bric-a-brac, in the friendly atmosphere of Provençal village events.
Gonfaron, a Centre Var commune at the foot of the Maures massif between Le Luc and Cuers, is known for its Tortoise Village (a Mediterranean tortoise rescue centre), the Cistude festival (pond turtle), its Côtes de Provence vineyard and an especially lively community life. The Festival Committee, central to that life, runs a yearly flea market long anchored in the calendar.
Festival committees, in Provence as elsewhere, are the real backbones of village events. All-volunteer, they run patron festivals, meals, pétanque contests, 14 July fireworks and of course flea markets. Gonfaron's committee carries on that French tradition with quality and enthusiasm.
The event brings together almost exclusively private sellers from Gonfaron and neighbouring communes (Les Mayons, Pignans, Le Luc, Le Cannet-des-Maures, Puget-Ville). Classic village jumble : adult and children's clothing, toys, books, tableware, bric-a-brac, small furniture, baby gear, small appliances, tools. Local colour adds rural and vinicultural objects occasionally.
The Tortoise Village, unique in France, is worth a detour, especially with children. Estate tastings around, and walking in the Maures cork-oak forests. Gonfaron combines village tradition, ecotourism and wine tourism.
Mid-morning for atmosphere. Cash. Combine with Tortoise Village or a winery. Village cafés and restaurants open.
