Bargain hunting at the foot of the Haut-Var Renaissance château
On Sunday May 3, 2026, La Verdière hosts its annual flea market in the hilltop village overlooked by its spectacular Renaissance château. Through the Provençal alleys and shady squares, private sellers and bargain hunters take over the heart of the Haut-Var for a spring day of traditional flea market in an exceptional architectural setting.
La Verdière is an often overlooked Haut-Var village, nestled on the plateau between Rians and the Verdon valley. Its château, former stronghold of the Forbin family, is one of the largest in Provence: an imposing Renaissance residence with 18th-century frescoed salons, recently reopened to the public. It is in this setting that the annual flea market takes place on Sunday May 3, 2026, a popular spring rendezvous.
In a village of fewer than 1,500 inhabitants, the flea market doesn't seek gigantism. It adopts a human-scale format where quality and conviviality dominate. Exhibitors, mostly locals and residents of neighbouring villages, display family finds and authentic Provençal objects.
