The car boot sale of Céret's century-old rugby club

Every May 1st, a day traditionally devoted to car boot sales in the Pyrénées-Orientales, Céret Sportif Vallespir organizes its annual event at the Louis Fondecave stadium. This long-awaited meeting of bargain hunters from Vallespir, Perpignan and the Roussillon plain is part of the long associative tradition of a rugby club founded in 1913 and deeply rooted in Catalan identity.

A stadium steeped in history at the foot of the Canigou

The Louis Fondecave stadium, located on avenue d'Espagne, was inaugurated in 1923 and bears the name of one of the club's emblematic players. Nestled between the cherry trees and orchards of Vallespir, a few kilometers from the Spanish border, this mythical stadium has seen generations of Catalan rugby players. For a day, the stands and the edges of the pitch are transformed into a real village of bargain hunters, with dozens of exhibitors unpacking trinkets, clothes, toys, tableware, collectibles and family memorabilia.

Céret, capital of cherries and cubism

Céret is no ordinary town. Nicknamed the Mecca of Cubism, it welcomed Picasso, Braque, Juan Gris, Soutine and Chagall at the beginning of the 20th century, as documented in its Museum of Modern Art. It is also the French capital of cherries, famous for its eponymous festival, and one of the strongholds of bullfighting in France. Coming to shop at Céret Sportif means enjoying this cultural richness and extending your visit to the historic center, its giant plane trees and Catalan fountains.

A car boot sale to benefit the club

Organized by the volunteers of Céret Sportif Vallespir, this event contributes to financing the activities of the XV rugby club, a renowned trainer in Vallespir. The proceeds help equip youth teams, maintain facilities and keep this Catalan rugby school alive.
