The May Day rendezvous in the village centre
Every 1st of May, the Castelmayran flea market enlivens the village centre of this peaceful commune in the Garonne valley. Organised by the Amicale Féminine association, the event brings together bargain hunters, private sellers and dealers in a friendly village atmosphere. A great opportunity to enjoy the public holiday hunting for furniture, clothes, toys or trinkets in the gentle Tarn-et-Garonne spring.
Tucked between the Garonne and the Quercy hills, Castelmayran is one of those Tarn-et-Garonne villages where the tradition of the flea market is firmly anchored in the calendar as a true spring ritual. Every 1st of May, the village centre transforms into a cheerful open-air gallery where private sellers and bargain hunters cross paths under the early morning sun.
The flea market is run by the Amicale Féminine of Castelmayran, a local association that plays an active role in the social and cultural life of the village. Volunteers welcome exhibitors from early morning, manage the pitches and run the refreshment bar, with proceeds helping to fund other events throughout the year.
The flea market mainly brings together private individuals from the village and neighbouring communes selling their personal finds: mismatched crockery, children's clothing, toys, vinyl records, books, trinkets, small furniture, tools and kitchen accessories. A few occasional dealers also display their lots, ensuring that browsers can find anything from a forgotten plush toy to a piece of antique faience.
The atmosphere is that of a village festive morning: smells of coffee and croissants, conversations in Occitan or French, reunions between residents and friendly haggling. A refreshment stand serves drinks, coffee and snacks, and lunch can be enjoyed on site.
Make the most of your visit to discover Castelmayran's discreet heritage: its Romanesque church and peaceful farming landscapes. The Canal des Deux-Mers passes just a few kilometres away, perfect for an afternoon bike ride.
For 1 May 2026, the Amicale Féminine of Castelmayran repeats its traditional flea market in the village centre.
