Literary bargain hunting between the library and boulevard Foresté
Organised by the neighbourhood association Bien Vivre Rue des Poètes, this flea market takes over rue Stéphane Mallarmé in Montauban each late spring, between the Mémo media library and boulevard Édouard Foresté. Fewer than fifty sellers, all private individuals, set up in a leafy, quiet setting that stands apart from major urban flea markets. A human-sized gathering designed by residents, for residents, minutes from the historic centre.
In Montauban's poets' quarter, where streets bear the names of Verlaine, Rimbaud and Mallarmé, neighbours naturally formed an association called Bien Vivre Rue des Poètes. Every late May or early June, it runs this human-sized flea market on rue Stéphane Mallarmé, between the Mémo media library and boulevard Édouard Foresté. Fewer than fifty sellers, all private individuals from the neighbourhood, give this event a rare authenticity.
The street name is more than decoration: many residents bring out books, often in large and well-kept quantities, delighting lovers of literature, paperbacks and old guidebooks. You will also find crockery, trinkets, toys, clothes, small furniture and family brocante from the neighbourhood's attics. The pace is slow, conversations many.
The rue Stéphane Mallarmé, closed to traffic for the occasion, lends itself perfectly to strolling: comfortable width, shaded pavements, calm circulation. The nearby Mémo library, open Sunday morning, offers a nice cultural stop.
To escape the crowds of big flea markets while enjoying well-placed pitches, to hunt for books and objects with stories to tell, to support a neighbourhood initiative: this is the quiet charm of the rue des Poètes flea market.

From 7am to 5pm, literary hunting, family brocante and homemade refreshments in the calm atmosphere typical of this neighbourhood event.
