Brienne-le-Château is a town marked by Napoleonic history: it was here that Bonaparte, aged ten, was educated at the Royal Military School from 1779 to 1784. The town today houses a Napoleon museum and numerous places of memory linked to this period. The Château de Brienne-le-Château, a reconstruction from the 18th century, overlooks the Aube plain and offers a striking panorama of the Saint-Gond marshes to the north. The Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens church preserves remarkable works of art. The town is also known for being the origin of Alsatian sauerkraut (choucroute champenoise), whose local production is celebrated every autumn.
