The Car Boot Sale of Brienne-le-Château: Treasure Hunting and Napoleonic History

Every summer, the town of Brienne-le-Château, famous for having hosted young Bonaparte in its military school from 1779 to 1784, opens its streets and squares to an annual car boot sale organized by the municipality. This friendly event brings together private exhibitors and visitors for a day of open-air treasure hunting, in an exceptional historical setting.

A Car Boot Sale in Bonaparte's City

The stalls are set up in the streets and squares of the center of Brienne-le-Château, offering a discovery route combining flea market finds and heritage. The exhibitors, exclusively private individuals according to recent editions, offer furniture, tableware, clothing, books, toys, and trinkets. The town setting allows visitors to extend their visit by discovering the rich local historical heritage.

The schoolyard hosts a catering area, allowing participants to refresh themselves as they wander. Entry is free for all visitors, and exhibitors pay a modest fee (€5 per linear meter according to recent editions) to finance the organization.

Brienne-le-Château, City of History and Napoleonic Memory

Brienne-le-Château is a town marked by Napoleonic history: it was here that Bonaparte, aged ten, was educated at the Royal Military School from 1779 to 1784. The town today houses a Napoleon museum and numerous places of memory linked to this period. The Château de Brienne-le-Château, a reconstruction from the 18th century, overlooks the Aube plain and offers a striking panorama of the Saint-Gond marshes to the north. The Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens church preserves remarkable works of art. The town is also known for being the origin of Alsatian sauerkraut (choucroute champenoise), whose local production is celebrated every autumn.
