The village is located in the area of the World War I battles, near the Verdun battlefields. This painful history is intimately linked to the creation of the Village of Old Crafts, an initiative led by the association GEVO for over 35 years to preserve Lorraine's heritage and popular traditions.

The Domaine des Roises is home to the Azannes Village of Old Crafts, a unique site where over 400 volunteers of all ages bring to life the crafts of yesteryear each year: blacksmith, clog maker, basket weaver, lace maker, wood-fired baker, and many more. This living heritage makes the village famous far beyond the borders of the Meuse.

The Azannes-et-Soumazannes car boot sale is a human-sized event. Sellers set up their stalls in the village streets, offering everyday items, crockery, trinkets, clothes, and books.
