Poigny-la-Forêt: Bargain Hunting at the Heart of the Rambouillet Forest

Nestled in the majestic Rambouillet forest, Poigny-la-Forêt is one of those small Yvelines villages where time seems to stand still. With fewer than 1,200 inhabitants, surrounded by centuries-old oaks and clearings, the town has preserved its rural authenticity at the gates of the Paris region. It is in this exceptional setting that Poigny-la-Forêt's annual flea market is held every early June, an eagerly awaited event for bargain hunters in the southern Yvelines.

Around a Hundred Exhibitors at Salle Claude Vatran

The flea market takes place at the Salle Claude Vatran (also called Salle des Fêtes du Marais), located at 11 route de Rambouillet. Around a hundred pitches are offered to exhibitors, who set up inside and outdoors around the community hall. Registration is open first to Pugnéens, then to residents of the Rambouillet Territoires Agglomeration Community, and finally to outsiders as space permits.

What You Will Find

The event brings together both private individuals clearing out attics, cellars and garages, and a few professional dealers who add a more curated touch. Visitors wander among stalls offering clothing, toys, books, crockery, small furniture, old tools, knick-knacks, postcards, stamp collections, vinyl records, board games and decorative objects. The atmosphere is particularly friendly, typical of these village events where people come as much to browse as to stroll and chat.

A Village Embraced by the Forest

Poigny-la-Forêt owes its name to its location within the Rambouillet state forest, one of the largest forest massifs in Ile-de-France. The Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption church, a listed historic monument, houses remarkable heritage. The streets of the centre, lined with old houses and flowered gardens, invite strolling. The town is also renowned for its hiking: many marked paths lead from the village to the Hollande ponds, the Rochers d'Angennes or the Guesle valley.

A Family and Country Event

The June flea market, traditionally held on a Sunday from 8am to 6pm, is a highlight of local community life. The festival committee, alongside the municipality, ensures the organisation and runs a refreshment bar with grilled food, fries and pastries. Families come to hunt, picnic and extend the day with a walk in the forest. Admission is entirely free for visitors.

Poigny-la-Forêt is about ten kilometres from Rambouillet, accessible via the D936 then the D107. Rambouillet station (Transilien N line from Paris-Montparnasse) is the nearest rail access point. From the Salle Claude Vatran car park, a forest shelter is just steps away for those who want to combine hunting and woodland walks.
