The Montgelard Hamlet and Its Flea Market

The Montgelard hamlet is one of the districts of the commune of La Grande-Paroisse, located at the confluence of the Seine and the Yonne, near Montereau-Fault-Yonne. Every June, the association Les Amis de Montgelard organizes its annual flea market, a neighborhood event that brings together residents of the hamlet, neighboring villages, and bargain hunters coming to enjoy a day of discoveries in a rural setting.

An Association Serving the Hamlet

Les Amis de Montgelard is a 1901-law association based at 41 hameau de Montgelard, in La Grande-Paroisse. Its purpose is to bring together the residents of the hamlet by developing conviviality and contributing to improving the local quality of life. The annual flea market is one of the highlights of the community's year, financed and organized by volunteers; it allows everyone to take part in local life while discovering the hamlet.

A Varied Offering and a Pigeon Release at Noon

The flea market brings together a variety of private and association exhibitors offering second-hand items, clothing, toys, books, crockery, trinkets, and small furniture. The friendly atmosphere is reinforced by several activities: on-site refreshments and catering, and a highlight eagerly awaited by families, the carrier pigeon release at noon, a nod to the pigeon-fancying tradition still alive in some regions. This original activity is particularly popular with children.
