Village bargain hunting in Vimeu
Some events are loved for their simplicity. The Méneslies house sale is one: no flashy advertising, no hundreds of exhibitors, but a family opening its door and passing on objects accumulated over the years. This is what lovers of authentic bargain hunting seek.
Méneslies is a small commune of the Vimeu, that quiet region of western Somme squeezed between the Picardy coast, the Bresle valley and the Bay of Somme. Land of agriculture and the locksmith industry, the Vimeu has its peaceful villages, its brick farms and its stone bell towers.
Every house sale tells a family story. In Méneslies, expect a varied display: wooden furniture, crockery, glassware, linen, clothing, shoes, decor, books, small appliances, tools and gardening equipment. A chance to find coherent sets and real bargains through direct negotiation.
In the Somme, the tradition of "réderies" and great displays is deeply rooted. The house sale is an intimate variation of this, but responds to the same logic: keeping objects in circulation, extending their lives, creating links between neighbours and visitors.
The sale lasts one day: arriving in the morning offers the best choice, while late-day negotiations are often most advantageous. Combine with a trip to the Picardy coast or Bay of Somme.
