The traditional fair with car boot sale and exhibition of beautiful engines
The May 8th Fair of Saint-Martin-de-la-Cluze is a local tradition held annually on May 8th at the Dondelle parking lot. From 9 am to 6 pm, this fair brings together exhibitors, artisans, merchants, and an outdoor car boot sale. The event highlights beautiful engines with motorcycle exhibitions, notably Harley-Davidsons. Free entertainment for the whole family: climbing wall, slackline, archery, pony rides, bouncy castle, and the traditional pig weighing.
Every May 8th, the Dondelle parking lot in Saint-Martin-de-la-Cluze comes alive for the traditional village fair. This festive event, rooted in local traditions, combines a commercial fair, a car boot sale, and family entertainment in a rural atmosphere in the heart of the Gresse valley. Exhibitors offer a wide range of products: local Dauphiné products, seasonal plants and flowers, local artisanal creations, and live poultry, perpetuating the tradition of rural fairs of yesteryear. The car boot sale, held in parallel, attracts bargain hunters looking for deals among the stalls of individuals.
The particularity of this fair is the prime place given to vintage vehicles, especially Harley-Davidson motorcycles which are the subject of a special exhibition highly anticipated by enthusiasts. This mechanical aspect attracts an audience of connoisseurs who come to admire the gleaming chrome, the timeless lines of American V-Twins, and to exchange with owners about the history and maintenance of these mythical machines. The roar of the engines adds a characteristic sound touch to the festive atmosphere of the day.
The May 8th Fair is above all a family celebration open to all. The free entertainment is remarkably varied and original: a climbing wall to test your verticality, an introduction to slacklining for balance enthusiasts, archery supervised by instructors, pony rides for the youngest, a bouncy castle, duck fishing, traditional wooden games, and the famous pig weighing which always has an effect and provokes laughter and bets among spectators. Trout fishing in the nearby stream completes the program. The Musée Gilioli offers its exhibitions of contemporary art and sculptures, and a meal-concert is organized at the Jeanne café-grocery, an essential place for conviviality in the village.
