Flea market and local crafts organized by the Saint-Sébastien Sports Circle of Witternheim, between Ried and Sélestat
The Basket Witternheim Flea Market and Local Crafts Fair takes place on Sunday, May 17, 2026 in Witternheim, at 57 rue de Hilsenheim. Organized by the Saint-Sébastien Sports Circle of Witternheim (basketball section), this original event happily combines two complementary universes: on one hand, the traditional flea market with its private stands offering clothes, toys, knick-knacks and hunted items, and on the other, a space dedicated to local artisans who showcase their know-how and creations. A friendly and family formula that attracts residents and visitors from all over the Ried and the Sélestat region every year, in a community and rural atmosphere typical of Alsatian villages.
The Basket Witternheim Flea Market and Local Crafts Fair stands out for its mixed formula which is its great charm. Unlike a classic flea market, this event combines two complementary universes: on one hand, the traditional private exhibitors who empty basements and attics, and on the other, local artisans and creators who offer their products and works. Visitors can thus hunt for antique items (clothes, toys, dishes, books, knick-knacks, small furniture) while discovering the artisanal creations of the region: pottery, handmade jewelry, wooden objects, local produce, decoration, artisanal textiles and other local productions. This alliance of popular bargain hunting and quality craftsmanship attracts a varied audience, from seasoned bargain hunters to lovers of authentic products made in Alsace.
The event is organized by the Saint-Sébastien Sports Circle of Witternheim, more precisely its basketball section. Like many rural clubs, Basket Witternheim relies on annual events to finance its operation, renew its equipment and allow its young licensees to practice their sport in the best conditions. The profits from the flea market and the crafts area are entirely donated to the club, which gives this event a solidarity dimension that visitors particularly appreciate. The warm welcome of the volunteers, the light catering offered on site and the family atmosphere make this event a particularly pleasant day. Witternheim is a rural commune of about 700 inhabitants located in Bas-Rhin, in the heart of the Ried, this humid and wooded plain characteristic of southern Alsace. About thirty kilometers south of Strasbourg and near Sélestat, the village benefits from a preserved natural environment, between Rhine forests and wet meadows, where remarkable fauna and flora flourish. The Ried, partly classified as Natura 2000, is one of the most precious natural areas in Western Europe. This nature setting, combined with the proximity of the Strasbourg-Colmar axis and the Haut-Kœnigsbourg, makes Witternheim a pleasant place for a Sunday bargain-hunting day combining sports traditions, local crafts and discovery of the Alsatian rural heritage.
