The great friendly bargain-hunters' rendezvous in the Maranel district of Albi
Each spring, the Maranel district in Albi turns into a vast open-air treasure hunt. Organised by the community centre association, this flea market gathers around one hundred private sellers offering bric-a-brac, clothing, toys and second-hand items. A family morning blending good deals, neighbourhood spirit and the pleasure of strolling, only minutes from the historic Albi city centre.
The Maranel flea market is one of the most eagerly awaited spring events in north-west Albi. For many years, the Maranel neighbourhood association has taken over Rue Alain Colas and the surroundings of the community centre to offer residents a morning of good humour and bargain-hunting. The event perfectly captures the spirit of these community flea markets where you meet your neighbours as much as you find the improbable object that was missing from your collection.
Around one hundred private sellers lay out their forgotten treasures on pavements and small squares. Children's and adult clothing, toys, books, crockery, small furniture, vinyl records, decorations, childcare equipment, tools: sellers are almost exclusively residents of the district and its surroundings, which guarantees gentle prices and room for negotiation.
The event takes place in a pleasant residential area, close to a playground and a picnic area that allow families to spend the whole morning there. Car traffic is closed from 8am to 6pm. Refreshments and light snacks are provided by the organising association, with the southern accent and warmth typical of events in the Tarn.
Arrive early to get the best choice: the finest pieces often go from the opening. Bring small change and a sturdy bag. The nearest car park is about a three-minute walk away. Disabled access and public toilets are available on site.
