Maincy, Village of the Prestigious Vaux-le-Vicomte

Maincy is a village that owes its worldwide fame to the presence on its territory of the Vaux-le-Vicomte castle, a masterpiece of French classical architecture built in the 17th century for Nicolas Fouquet by the greatest artists of the time: Louis Le Vau for architecture, André Le Nôtre for the gardens and Charles Le Brun for the interior decor. This castle is considered the precursor of Versailles and attracts thousands of visitors from around the world every year.

Rue Alfred et Edmé Sommier, a Historic Axis

The street where the flea market takes place bears the name of the Sommier family, owners of Vaux-le-Vicomte castle since the late 19th century. Alfred Sommier, industrialist and patron of the arts, bought and saved the estate from ruin in 1875, undertaking a vast restoration campaign that allowed Vaux-le-Vicomte to regain its former splendor.
