Lusignan Braderies

Lusignan, Mélusine fairy capital

Lusignan is a small town of about 2,700 inhabitants halfway between Poitiers and Niort on the RN11. Cradle of the Lusignan family (kings of Cyprus and Jerusalem in the Middle Ages), the town owes its fame to the Mélusine fairy legend, whose castle was allegedly built in a single night. Blossac promenade park occupies the former Lusignan fortress site.

2026 braderie calendar

• Saturday 28 March 2026 — Grande Braderie at Vêti Boutique, 57 avenue de Poitiers. Emblematic town commercial braderie.
• Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 May 2026 — Braderie organised by Collectif Mélusine throughout town.

These braderies complement the traditional Lusignan medieval festival also in 2026.

Braderie, how it works

In Lusignan, braderie is above all a commercial event: shops bring stock onto pavements and streets, for knockdown sales. At Vêti Boutique (ready-to-wear), the March braderie marks a key moment with major reductions. The Collectif Mélusine late-May braderie opens the summer season with more shops.

Lusignan, remarkable heritage town

Beyond braderies, Lusignan is worth visiting. Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Junien church (11th-12th c.) is a fine example of Poitevin Romanesque art. Blossac park offers a panorama over the Vonne valley. The halles and commercial streets keep a medieval character.

Extending the day

15 km from Lusignan, the Sanxay (Herbord) Gallo-Roman sanctuary is one of France's most important Gallo-Roman archaeological sites. Vivonne and its Clain-Vonne confluence deserve a stop. Poitiers is 25 km away, Niort 30 km.
