A 1st of May in Lavoux stone

Lavoux is a small commune of about 1,100 inhabitants 15 km east of Poitiers, between Jardres and Bignoux. The village is famed in all Poitou for its limestone — the Lavoux stone, also called Bignoux stone — extracted from its quarries for centuries. This fine durable stone has built many Poitiers and regional monuments, including Notre-Dame-la-Grande. In this particular heritage setting, the commune's vide-grenier takes place every 1st May.

The 2026 edition — 1 May

The next Lavoux vide-grenier is scheduled for Friday 1 May 2026, a bank holiday traditionally conducive to vide-greniers throughout Vienne. About 100 exhibitors expected: private sellers sorting attics and cellars, small dealers, local associations. Classic village formula — stalls in streets, bar and catering by associations — guarantees convivial family atmosphere.

A 1st of May tradition

Lavoux's vide-grenier belongs to the regional 1st of May vide-greniers tradition, found in several Vienne communes the same day. This concentration around the bank holiday lets families use the long weekend to cover several brocantes in one day: Lavoux, Leugny (Rond du Chêne festival), and others further away offer a real hunter's circuit across the department.

Lavoux, stone and heritage

Besides quarries, Lavoux keeps heritage elements: Saint-Martin church, former castle (now residential), several local-limestone houses. Architecture lovers will appreciate local stone quality, visible on facades. The commune belongs to Grand Poitiers urban community, on the Poitiers-Chauvigny axis.

Extending the day

After the vide-grenier, Chauvigny (10 min) and its medieval city with five fortresses, or Poitiers (20 min) and its Romanesque heritage, ideally extend the visit. Vienne valley, Valdivienne and Civaux (archaeological museum) are minutes away.
