Early-spring hunting at Lake Jaunay
La Chapelle-Hermier is a small rural community of about 800 in central Vendée, between La Roche-sur-Yon and the coast. Known for Lake Jaunay, popular with anglers, walkers and families. The annual spring flea market is one of the community's early-season events.
2026 edition: Sunday 15 March 2026. One of the département's earliest markets — a nice chance for hunters to start the season. Usually in the centre or a hall depending on weather, with about 30 local exhibitors.
La Chapelle-Hermier is above all known for Lake Jaunay, a 120-hectare artificial lake from the 1980s. Paradise for anglers (carp, pike, zander), hikers (lakeside trail), families picnicking or enjoying play areas. Leisure base offers water activities in season.
Ideally located 15 min from Aizenay, 20 min from La Roche-sur-Yon, 30 min from Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. Perfect for those working in the Yon agglomeration or on the coast. Nice church, basic shops, active community.
Lake Jaunay and leisure base (5 min); Aizenay (15 min); Olonne state forest (25 min); Brétignolles-sur-Mer and Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie beaches (30 min).
Arrive early for season's first bargains; check weather — March can be changeable; cash; combine with a Lake Jaunay walk.
