Summer flea market in Jutigny on the Music Day, small village in southern Seine-et-Marne
The Jutigny flea market and garage sale is a summer event held every year on the Sunday of the Music Day in this small village in southern Seine-et-Marne, close to Donnemarie-Dontilly and Provins. Very early start at 6am for the most passionate bargain hunters, with a display set up around the church, at 13 rue de l'Église. Warm and authentic atmosphere of a rural Briard flea market, in a preserved setting.
In southern Seine-et-Marne, a few kilometers from Donnemarie-Dontilly and the medieval city of Provins, the small village of Jutigny hosts its annual flea market and garage sale every June. The particularity of this gathering: it takes place on Music Day, which gives a particular festive dimension to the event. The earliest bargain hunters are on site as early as 6am, with a flashlight, to be the first to find the rare pearl before the crowd of visitors arrives.
Jutigny is a small village, and its flea market has the authenticity of village events: you meet residents who all know each other, families who have come to spend the day, regulars of bargain hunting, and a few curious people who take advantage of the beautiful season to venture on the small roads of southern Brie. The installation is done around the church, rue de l'Église, in a quiet and preserved setting typical of these Briard communes that have managed to keep their rural character far from urban pressure.
The 6am start is a nod to the great traditional flea markets where serious bargain hunters arrive very early to have first pick of the stalls. It is also a way to enjoy the morning freshness before the June sun heats the Briard countryside. For flea market enthusiasts, this early hour is part of the charm and pleasure: you settle down with your coffee, chat with exhibitors who are still unpacking their boxes, negotiate quietly before the Sunday morning family rush.
Jutigny is located in southern Seine-et-Marne, in an area sometimes called the Briard Bassée, between the Seine valley and the Voulzie valley. It is a region of large cultures, open landscapes, small villages grouped around their church, in a preserved agricultural environment. The village itself is small, which contributes to the charm of its flea market: nothing to do with large anonymous fairs. Donnemarie-Dontilly, the neighboring town, houses a magnificent Gothic collegiate church worth the detour.
Beyond the flea market, Jutigny is a gateway to an unknown territory: southern Seine-et-Marne, with its preserved villages, landscapes of large cultures, and heritage curiosities. Provins, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is only about thirty kilometers away. Nangis and Bray-sur-Seine are also nearby. The day of the flea market can easily extend into a nice escape between bargain hunting, medieval heritage, and Briard countryside. With Music Day as a bonus, the festive atmosphere of this long June day leaves pleasant memories.
