120 exhibitors, bread from the communal oven, sausage-lentils and folk music on the last Sunday of August
On the last Sunday of August, Montregard reconnects with its rural roots during its grand Journée Rurale. More than 120 exhibitors take over the village for a flea market, car boot sale, and craft fair. Bread baked in the communal oven, sausage and lentils for lunch, and folk music entertainment make this day an authentic and popular celebration, organized by the Collectif Fêtes Rurales.
Every last Sunday of August, the village of Montregard transforms into a huge open-air market for its Journée Rurale — Fair — Flea Market. A true celebration of rural life and local traditions, this event brings together over 120 exhibitors — flea market vendors, artisans, producers, and individuals — in the heart of the commune.
With over 120 exhibitors, the Journée Rurale of Montregard is one of the largest gatherings in the region at the end of summer. Stalls line the streets and squares of the village, offering flea market finds and antiques, local crafts, farm products, collectibles, and many other treasures. The diversity of exhibitors guarantees varied discoveries and accessible prices.
The Journée Rurale would not be complete without its gastronomic highlights. Bread baked in the communal oven, a peasant tradition revived for the occasion, is offered to visitors throughout the morning. At noon, a typical Auvergne meal — sausage and lentils, an emblem of Haute-Loire cuisine — is served by the village school. This traditional catering greatly contributes to the warm and festive atmosphere of the day.
The festive dimension is amplified by musical entertainment: a folk band livens up the day, setting the rhythm for strolls between the stalls with traditional melodies from the Massif Central. Children's entertainment — wooden games, inflatable structures depending on the year — completes the program. The Journée Rurale of Montregard is a true art of country living, a suspended moment where generations come together around the simple values of the terroir.
This event is the result of the volunteer work of the Collectif Fêtes Rurales of Montregard, which mobilizes the entire village each year to prepare and host this emblematic day. Contact: 04 71 59 95 73.
