Great spring flea market at Place de l'Hippodrome in the Neuhof district of Strasbourg
The Hippodrome Flea Market enlivens Place de l'Hippodrome each spring, located in the Neuhof district, one of the historic suburbs in the south of Strasbourg. This event, organised by the "Au-delà des Ponts" Social and Cultural Centre, gathers a large number of private and professional exhibitors who unpack their treasures in a festive and family atmosphere. At the stalls, bargain hunters discover a wide variety of items: antique furniture, crockery, glassware, trinkets, light fixtures, postcards, old books, vinyl records, vintage toys, second-hand clothing and all kinds of curiosities. The proximity of the Polygone racecourse, one of the oldest racetracks in Europe, gives the event a special charm that attracts residents from across the Strasbourg metropolitan area.
Strasbourg, prefecture of Bas-Rhin and capital of the Grand Est region, is one of the most emblematic cities of Alsace. A European capital and seat of the European Parliament, the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights, it combines medieval heritage with institutional modernity. Its historic centre, the Grande Île, has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988 and houses the famous Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Petite France and its half-timbered houses. The Neuhof district, located in the south of the city, retains a popular and green character with its racecourse, golf course, Rohrschollen nature reserve and flea market, making this suburb an authentic place to live far from the tourist hustle of the centre.
