Traditional Bastille Day flea market in this Alsatian wine-growing village
In Hartmannswiller, the 14th of July national holiday has gone hand in hand with a flea market for several years. This annual event, which has become a cherished local tradition, brings together villagers and visitors from neighboring communes around stalls of bric-a-brac, clothes, toys and all sorts of objects.
Nestled in the Vosges foothills, Hartmannswiller is a village of about 550 inhabitants. It is also known for the Hartmannswillerkopf, a First World War memorial site listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The village centre hosts the outdoor flea market each Bastille Day, with sellers offering clothes, toys, crockery, books, tools and decorative objects.
