Grand summer car boot sale and flea market in the streets and squares of the village of Saint-Julien-Chapteuil
Saint-Julien-Chapteuil is a medieval village in Haute-Loire, nestled in the Sumène valley about twenty kilometers south-east of Le Puy-en-Velay. Dominated by the imposing mass of the Rocher Corneille and bordered by the foothills of the Mézenc, this village of character is one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France and offers a remarkable architectural setting with its granite houses and cobbled streets.
It is the association Les Amis de Vernassal — named after the nearby hamlet — that organizes this eagerly awaited grand flea market and car boot sale every summer. The association, rooted in the local life of Mézenc-Meygal, mobilizes its volunteers to set up an event that takes over the village streets and squares, transforming the historic center of Saint-Julien-Chapteuil into a vast second-hand market.
On the day of the grand flea market, Saint-Julien-Chapteuil dons its festive attire. Stalls are set up along the medieval alleys, in the shaded squares, and around the church. Antique furniture, tableware, tools, books, clothing, and decorative items coexist in this enchanting setting. Les Amis de Vernassal also offers a refreshment stand and a snack bar for meals, as well as a tea room for a gourmet break in the middle of the day.
