The Grande Braderie d'Été, the popular event in the heart of Besançon

Organized every year in July by the association Besançon Côté Centre, which federates the merchants of the city center of Besançon, the Grande Braderie d'Été is one of the highlights of the summer in the capital of Franche-Comté. Over two days — Friday and Saturday — more than 200 merchants and exhibitors, both permanent and temporary, set up their stands in the most emblematic streets and squares of the historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The streets involved form a true festive route through the heart of the Vauban citadel: Grande Rue, rue des Granges, rue Moncey, rue de la République, rue Bersot, rue Pasteur, rue d'Anvers, rue Morand. The squares of 8 Septembre, Granvelle, and Pasteur become spaces for entertainment and meeting, notably hosting the "Fait Main" (Handmade) creators' market which showcases local and regional talents.

More than 200 exhibitors, a festive atmosphere

The sale brings together local shops selling on the sidewalk, temporary vendors, artisans, and creators, all gathered in the friendly and festive spirit of the great traditional French-style sale. You can find clothing and accessories at sale prices, home goods, books, records, decorative items, handmade creations, local food products, and many other finds.

The Place du 8 Septembre is particularly lively with its market dedicated to Besançon creators, offering unique, 100% local, and 100% handmade pieces. It's an opportunity to discover and support regional talents in fashion, jewelry, design, or illustration.

Transport and parking facilities

To facilitate attendance for as many people as possible, measures are taken each year: reduced rates for city center parking (1 € from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday), and free public transport every Saturday in July. The event is completely free for visitors.

In 2026, the Grande Braderie d'Été will be held on Friday, July 3rd and Saturday, July 4th.
