Grand annual car boot sale in the streets of the village of Chabestan, organized by the Club des Loisirs
The Club des Loisirs de Chabestan organizes a large annual car boot sale every summer in the village square and streets. Pitches are available for 2 euros per meter or 5 euros for 3 meters. From 7 am to 5 pm, bargain hunters stroll through this mountain village of Buëch located between Veynes and Serres, in an authentic rural setting in the Hautes-Alpes.
Every summer, the small village of Chabestan transforms into a large open-air flea market. The Club des Loisirs organizes a car boot sale that takes over the town hall square and the village streets, creating a picturesque treasure hunt route in the heart of this mountain commune in the Buëch region.
Perched at over 800 meters altitude on the foothills of the Montagne de Ceüse, Chabestan is a typical village in the Hautes-Alpes, with its stone houses, tiled roofs, and narrow streets. The commune offers a remarkable panorama of the Buëch valley and the surrounding peaks. The tranquility and authenticity of this village of less than 150 inhabitants contrast with the liveliness of the car boot sale, which attracts bargain hunters from all over the valley.
Exhibitors offer a wide range of second-hand items: old tableware, trinkets, frames and mirrors, books and magazines, toys, clothes, small appliances, tools, sports equipment, vinyl records and CDs, linens, and decorative objects. In the Hautes-Alpes, you can also regularly find typical mountain objects: old agricultural tools, cowbells, Savoyard furniture, vintage skis, snowshoes, and hiking equipment. Prices are generally very attractive, making these car boot sales an economical and ecological alternative to buying new.
The Hautes-Alpes department, the least populated in metropolitan France, compensates for its low density with a particularly dynamic associative life. From March to October, car boot sales and flea markets punctuate the life of Alpine villages, offering as many opportunities to hunt for treasures as to get together with neighbors. The summer season, with the influx of tourists and holidaymakers, multiplies the opportunities: passing visitors gladly stop to browse the stalls, sometimes discovering unsuspected Alpine treasures. The exceptional mountain setting of the department adds a unique dimension to these events, with grandiose panoramas and pure mountain air.
The price of 2 euros per meter (or 5 euros for 3 meters) makes this car boot sale particularly accessible. Exhibitors set up their stalls in the village streets, creating a traditional village flea market atmosphere. Visitors enjoy the mountain setting and the summer coolness to hunt for treasures in peace.
