The largest gathering of flea market dealers in the Eure, at the foot of the Châteaux Gaillard
The Grand Déballage des Andelys is one of the most important flea market events in Normandy. Organized every year in September since 1967, it brings together up to 800 exhibitors in the streets and squares of the medieval town of Les Andelys. Individuals and professionals offer antique furniture, collectibles, tableware, books, and curiosities in an exceptional setting dominated by the ruins of Château Gaillard, the fortress of Richard the Lionheart.
Since 1967, every September, the town of Les Andelys transforms into a vast open-air flea market. Over the decades, the Grand Déballage has become one of the flagship events for bargain hunters in Normandy and the Île-de-France region, attracting up to 800 exhibitors from all over the region and beyond. This large-scale event takes over the streets and squares of the town, creating an exceptional treasure hunt route along the Seine.
Les Andelys benefits from a remarkable heritage setting that gives the Grand Déballage a unique atmosphere. Overlooking the Seine and the town from a limestone cliff over 100 meters high, the ruins of Château Gaillard—a fortress built by Richard the Lionheart at the end of the 12th century—provide a spectacular backdrop for flea market enthusiasts. The town itself, with its half-timbered houses and its riverside setting, adds to the charm of the event.
The scale of the Grand Déballage makes it an extraordinary event in the Norman flea market scene. With up to 800 exhibitors gathered in one place, visitors can browse miles of stalls offering an extraordinary range of items: antique furniture, tableware, silverware, paintings, old books, toys, tools, vintage clothing, and all sorts of imaginable curiosities. The mix of private sellers and professional dealers guarantees the diversity and quality of the items on offer.
Launched in 1967, the Grand Déballage has continued uninterrupted for over five decades, becoming a local and regional institution. This annual event contributes to the tourist and commercial appeal of Les Andelys, a town of some 8,000 inhabitants located halfway between Rouen and Paris, on the banks of the Seine in the Norman valley.
Comprising two former merged communes—Grand Andely and Petit Andely—Les Andelys is distinguished by its dual heritage: architectural, with the collegiate church of Notre-Dame and its Renaissance stained glass windows, and natural, with the meanders of the Seine and the limestone cliffs. This privileged geographical location, 100 km from Paris, makes it an accessible destination for bargain hunters from all over Île-de-France and Normandy.
