Organized by GAB (Groupement des Associations et Bénévoles), the Grand Car Boot Sale of Ducey-les-Chéris takes place every May 1st and brings together around 600 exhibitors in this town in southern Manche (50220). With 600 exhibitors, it is one of the largest car boot sales in the Manche department, and a leading event in the Norman flea market calendar.
600 exhibitors in a single day of a car boot sale is an exceptional number that explains the considerable turnout the event experiences. Thousands of visitors make the trip from all over southern Manche, neighboring Orne, and even Brittany to browse the stalls and find that rare gem. Private exhibitors offer treasures from their attics and cellars: furniture and antique objects, crockery, linens, clothing for the whole family, old toys and games, agricultural and workshop tools, books, records, various collections.
May 1st, a public holiday for Labour Day, is the ideal date to organize such an event: families are available, spring is here, and the desire to go out is at its peak. In Ducey-les-Chéris, this May 1st car boot sale tradition is firmly established and eagerly awaited by all. GAB, responsible for the organization, deploys a well-honed logistics system to manage this exceptional turnout: allocation of pitches, signage, parking, security, catering.
The location of Ducey-les-Chéris is an additional asset: on the banks of the Sélune, at the gates of the Mont-Saint-Michel Bay, the town benefits from a remarkable natural environment that pleasantly complements a day of treasure hunting. After the car boot sale, a walk along the river or towards the bay is a natural choice.
Ducey-les-Chéris (50220) is a commune formed by the merger of Ducey and Les Chéris in 2016. Located on the banks of the Sélune, a river renowned for its salmon and wild beauty, the town is a few kilometers from the Mont-Saint-Michel Bay and Avranches. It is a region of hedgerows and rivers, typical of the Avranchin area, whose gentle landscape contrasts with the grandeur of the nearby bay.
Ducey is also known for its Château des Montgommery, rebuilt in the 16th-17th centuries, and for salmon fishing in the Sélune. With the restoration of the two Sélune dams (the largest dam removal project in France), the river is regaining its wild character, enhancing the natural attractiveness of Ducey-les-Chéris.
