Summer garage sale in this exceptional wine village on the Alsace Wine Route, famous for its twisted Romanesque tower
The Niedermorschwihr Garage Sale takes place each year in September in one of the most picturesque and endearing villages on the Alsace Wine Route. Niedermorschwihr (68230) is a wine village of around 600 inhabitants nestled in a secret valley in the Vosges foothills, between Turckheim and Colmar. Its exceptional setting — golden vines stretching as far as the eye can see in September, half-timbered Alsatian houses adorned with geraniums, cobblestone lanes, and absolute calm — makes it one of the most enviable backdrops for a village garage sale.
Niedermorschwihr is best known for its Saint-Gall church and its Romanesque tower with a twisted spire, a rare architectural curiosity in Alsace and Europe. This tower, whose spire twists on itself in a striking helical movement, is the village's emblem and attracts many visitors each year who love Romanesque art and medieval architecture.
Niedermorschwihr's wine terroir is particularly renowned. The village benefits from the Grand Cru Sommerberg, one of Alsace's most esteemed grand crus, producing exceptional Rieslings and Gewurztraminers. In September, during the garage sale, the vines are laden with ripe grapes, offering a magnificent visual spectacle and a unique atmosphere.
