Comic strip festival at the Fontenoy-la-Joûte Book Village
The Fontenoy-la-Joûte Comic Strip Festival, titled "Fontenoy celebrates Comics", is an annual festival dedicated to comic strips organized by the association of Friends of the Book at the Book Village. This event brings together regional and national comic strip authors and illustrators for signing sessions, exhibitions, and creative workshops. The 2026 edition hosts eighteen comic strip authors, a Tintin exhibition at the Galerie Mengotti, and comic strip cosplay.
Every summer, the Fontenoy-la-Joûte Book Village buzzes with the rhythm of comic strips with its annual festival "Fontenoy celebrates Comics". This festival, in its 9th edition in 2026, has become a popular summer event for comic strip enthusiasts in Lorraine, featuring renowned authors and illustrators.
Fontenoy-la-Joûte, a Book Village since 1996, is a unique cultural site in Meurthe-et-Moselle. Its eleven permanent second-hand bookstores offer a wide selection of comic strips, manga, and comics all year round. The annual comic strip festival reinforces this offering by providing a highlight dedicated to the 9th art, with authors for signings and original exhibitions.
The festival offers signing sessions with fifteen to twenty authors and illustrators, both regional and national. The authors welcome visitors for discussions and personalized drawings. Exhibitions of murals and original plates are presented at the Galerie Mengotti, the village's permanent exhibition space dedicated to graphic arts. Creative and educational workshops allow visitors of all ages to discover comic strip drawing and graphic storytelling. A cultural quiz about comic strips is organized on Saturday at 3 PM with vouchers to be won in the village bookstores.
For the 30th anniversary of the Book Village, the 9th edition of the festival hosts eighteen comic strip authors on Saturday, July 25th, and Sunday, July 26th, 2026. A special exhibition dedicated to Tintin is held at the Galerie Mengotti, and a comic strip cosplay event enriches the festive program. The eleven village shops are open from 9 AM to 6 PM, and fast food is available on-site. Entry and parking are free, making this event accessible to all comic strip lovers in Lorraine.
