Summer flea market on the banks of the Loing, in the glassmaking town of southern Seine-et-Marne
The annual Bagneaux-sur-Loing Flea Market animates every summer the center of this commune famous for its glassmaking past, on the banks of the Loing river. Organized by the local festivities committee, it brings together individuals and bargain hunters from 8am to 6pm in a friendly atmosphere. On-site catering, varied stalls and a pleasant setting make this August gathering a favorite among residents and holidaymakers.
Every first Sunday of August, the commune of Bagneaux-sur-Loing opens its streets to the traditional summer flea market organized by the local Comité des fêtes. In this village in southern Seine-et-Marne, on the borders of the Loiret department and close to the Gâtinais, the event paces the summer season and attracts both villagers and holidaymakers staying in the region or along the Loing.
Bagneaux-sur-Loing owes its reputation to its industrial history linked to glass and crystal. The commune long hosted major glassworks that marked its identity and landscape, including the famous Saint-Gobain factory specialized in technical and optical glass. This singular history makes Bagneaux a commune apart in southern Seine-et-Marne, with deep working-class roots. Nestled between the Loing and the vast forests of the Fontainebleau massif, it offers a pleasant setting for a day of bargain hunting and relaxation.
Behind the event, an essential actor: the Bagneaux-sur-Loing Comité des fêtes. This association of passionate volunteers works all year round to enliven village life, and the flea market is one of the highlights of their calendar. Profits often help fund other local events, giving this gathering a community dimension appreciated by residents.
The flea market runs from 8am to 6pm, giving visitors plenty of time to stroll through the stalls. Exhibitors, mostly individuals, offer the usual range of items: furniture, tableware, household linens, clothes, toys, books, records, tools, small appliances and decorative objects. Some families empty old village houses or attics cluttered for generations, which can lead to beautiful surprises for patient hunters.
A major asset of the Bagneaux flea market is its on-site catering, again run by Comité des fêtes volunteers. You'll often find sausages and fries, grilled food, sandwiches, drinks and desserts at modest prices, allowing visitors to spend the whole day without heading home for lunch. A boon for families hunting together.
After the flea market, the Loing valley is well worth a stop. Nature lovers will enjoy trails along the river, history buffs can head to Nemours and its medieval castle, or to Moret-sur-Loing, the charming town linked to painter Alfred Sisley. The Fontainebleau forest, nearby, offers countless walking possibilities.
