A clothes swap in a Haut-Var village

Figanières, a small Haut-Var village about ten kilometres north-east of Draguignan, perched on a hill overlooking the farming valleys of the Dracénie, regularly hosts this wardrobe sale in the rural vide-dressing tradition. Unlike big urban events, it takes place in a community hall or village square and is aimed first and foremost at local residents and the wider area.

The wardrobe-sale principle

Unlike general flea markets, the wardrobe sale is dedicated exclusively to clothing and personal accessories. Exhibitors – mostly private sellers – offer wardrobe items they no longer wear in good general condition. You find adult and children's clothes, shoes, bags, belts, scarves, sometimes household linen. The format promotes low-priced finds and short-circuit textile reuse.

The spirit of the event

Three features define Figanières : village roots, reuse dimension, friendliness. Village roots because it brings together families from the commune and surroundings (Châteaudouble, Callas, Claviers, Bargemon). Reuse dimension as part of the growing second-hand logic. Friendliness from a human-scale setting, direct neighbour-to-neighbour exchange, sometimes a community snack bar.

Figanières is known for its annual grey fig festival. The village, with its steep alleys and stone houses, offers a typical Provençal interior setting. Visitors can extend their stay with a walk in the old centre or a visit to nearby massifs.
