About Cordes Medieval Market

Every summer, the medieval town of Cordes-sur-Ciel travels back in time for a weekend for the Grand Falconer Festival. Along the cobbled streets and Gothic houses, the medieval market brings together craftsmen, designers, medievalist antique dealers and local producers amid costumed parades, troubadours and fire shows. One of the Tarn's major events, both a heritage celebration and an exceptional market.

Cordes-sur-Ciel, medieval jewel of the Tarn

Perched on a hill overlooking the Cérou valley, Cordes-sur-Ciel is one of France's most beautiful villages. Founded in 1222 by Raymond VII, Count of Toulouse, the bastide has preserved an outstanding collection of Gothic houses, ramparts and fortified gates. Each summer, this unique town hosts the Grand Falconer Medieval Festival, which has recreated the atmosphere of great medieval fairs for more than forty years.

A distinctive medieval market

Far from a simple flea market, the Cordes medieval market gathers carefully selected craftsmen and antique dealers faithful to the period. Visitors find hand-crafted leather goods, ironwork and forges, antique arms and replicas, costumes, fabrics, jewellery, illuminations, soaps, candles, ceramics, pottery, turned wood, spices and herbs. Specialist dealers offer coins, old documents, prints, curios and authentic pieces from their cabinets.

A complete celebration

Beyond the market, the Grand Falconer Festival is an ongoing spectacle: costumed parades, knights, noble ladies, troubadours, jugglers, fire-breathers, birds of prey, music and dances. The alleys vibrate with drumming, and the medieval banquet, falconry displays and stunning night fire show make every edition unforgettable. Visitors are invited to dress up, and many play along.

A moment to savour in the Tarn

Between stalls, enjoy shaded terraces, nearby Gaillac wines, Carmaux specialities and breathtaking views from the ramparts. The Grand Falconer Medieval Festival is an invitation to travel through time while savouring the best of the Tarn's way of life.
