The private-to-private neighborhood flea market
The Épis District Flea Market is a local event organized by the district's Fête Committee in Roye, in the Santerre region. A friendly, entirely private-sellers event, it allows residents and neighborhood bargain hunters to meet in the streets of the district for an authentic day of flea market, from 10am to 5pm.
The Épis District Flea Market perfectly illustrates the community vitality of residential districts in Picard towns. Organized by the Épis District Fête Committee, it is entirely designed and run by residents for residents. This private-to-private flea market model, deliberately restricted to one district, creates a unique atmosphere, halfway between the village flea market and the neighborhood fête.
Roye is a small Somme town located in the Santerre, on the borders of the Oise and near Montdidier. A former merchant town at the intersection of several important trade routes, it long benefited from its strategic position on the road connecting Amiens to Noyon.
The Épis Flea Market's assumed particularity is that it's reserved for private sellers, effectively excluding professionals and resellers. This rule gives the event its authentic pure flea market character, where everyone truly empties their attic.
The flea market runs for a full day, from 10am to 5pm, in the streets of the Épis district. Exhibitors set up their stands in front of their homes or in spaces reserved by the committee. The refreshment bar and food provided by Fête Committee volunteers are a highlight of the event.
The profits from the event enable the Épis District Fête Committee to finance its activities throughout the year: children's entertainment, neighbors' day, annual meal, Christmas decorations. By coming to shop at the flea market, visitors indirectly participate in maintaining this neighborhood life.
