Specialized fair for meteorites, minerals, fossils and crystals in the city that houses the world's oldest preserved meteorite
The Ensisheim Meteorites and Minerals Fair is a rare and singular event in the Alsatian collecting fair landscape. Organized in the very city that preserves the world's oldest preserved meteorite, this specialized fair brings together exhibitors from France, Germany, Switzerland and beyond every June to offer their finest pieces to discerning collectors.
On the program: authentic meteorites of all origins and classifications, raw and cut minerals from around the world, fossils of great variety, crystals, semi-precious stones and gemstones. Expert exhibitors are on hand to share their passion and authenticate pieces.
On November 7, 1492, a meteorite weighing several hundred kilos crashed into the fields surrounding the town, witnessed by many people. Emperor Maximilian I, who was in Ensisheim at the time, ordered the celestial fragment to be carefully preserved. Today, the meteorite weighing 55 kg is still on display at the Palais de la Régence, making Ensisheim one of the most symbolically important sites in world meteoritics.
