Hunting in a Lusignan-country estate
Private estate fairs are increasingly popular: original setting, more intimate than a public-square market, often tree-lined or in beautiful outbuildings. Domaine de la Briouse at Sanxay (86) hosts one on Sunday 14 June 2026, drawing authenticity-seeking hunters.
Appreciated for: limited seller count (quality over quantity), often finer pieces (motivated individuals + semi-pro dealers), scenic setting turning hunting into a country walk.
About 600 inhabitants south-west of Poitiers, in Lusignan country. World-famous among archaeologists for its Gallo-Roman sanctuary — a major New Aquitaine archaeological site. 1st-century remains (temple, theatre, baths) discovered in the 19th century by Père de La Croix. Managed by Centre des monuments nationaux, visitable year-round.
Combines well: morning hunt, afternoon sanctuary — turns a day into a tourism weekend.
Lusignan (15 min), historic medieval town. Poitiers (25 km). Parthenay (30 km). Melle (40 km) with its Frankish silver mines.
For experienced hunters: better-curated sellers, finer pieces, scenic setting, often refined refreshments (local produce, countryside catering). Also: discover private places you wouldn't otherwise see.
Arrive before 10 am for calm and best finds. Cash and notes — prices may be higher than a classic flea market. Bag or trolley. Take time — enjoy the estate. Extend with Gallo-Roman sanctuary (open in season).
