Back-to-school antiques fair near Poitiers
Coulombiers is a commune of around 1,600 inhabitants southwest of Poitiers, in the Clain Valleys, 15 km from the capital. This strategic position provides a particular status: close enough to benefit from the agglomeration's dynamism, yet removed enough to keep its rural identity. The September fair benefits from Poitiers-area proximity which guarantees good attendance.
Coulombiers is on the historic Poitiers-Lusignan axis, near the A10. This accessibility partly explains the fair's success: Poitiers residents and nearby communes (Fontaine-le-Comte, Vivonne, Ligugé) come easily, while distant browsers find the commune via main roads.
Part of the historic Lusignanais territory, around Lusignan, an old seigneury famous for the Mélusine legend and medieval castle (lost but depicted in Très Riches Heures du duc de Berry). Region marked by Clain and Vonne valleys, Haut-Poitou vineyards, and many heritage sites: Ligugé Abbey (oldest in the West), Sanxay Gallo-Roman sanctuary, Poitiers (Notre-Dame-la-Grande, Baptistère Saint-Jean, Palais des comtes).
Proximity to a university city brings interesting quality: mix of local private sellers, semi-professional brocanteurs from Poitou, sometimes antique dealers from Poitiers. Prices vary from flea-market bargains to higher-end pieces.
