462 years of history: the unmissable medieval fair and flea market of Val-de-Marne
Few French popular events can boast a history spanning more than four centuries. The Foire au Troc et aux Cochons of Champigny-sur-Marne is one such living institution, with roots going back to 1563 when King Charles IX granted the lord of Champigny the right to hold two annual fairs. Since then, this heritage has survived and evolved through the centuries to become the remarkable event it is today.
At its heart, a flea market with around 300 vendors lines the quai Victor-Hugo, rue Raymonde-Tillon and rue du Marché in the town centre. Private sellers and professionals offer a wide range of second-hand goods in a festive atmosphere. A reconstructed medieval village, an educational farm with poultry, donkeys and pigs, funfair rides, food trucks, restaurants and 40+ local associations complete this extraordinary family celebration. Free entry for visitors.
