Carqueiranne's brocante season opener
Carqueiranne, a coastal commune nestled between Toulon and Hyères in its sheltered bay, lives to the rhythm of monthly flea markets held at Place de la République. January opens the local bargain-hunting season. Despite winter chill, it attracts savvy hunters and loyal vendors in a more intimate but equally warm atmosphere.
Private sellers from Carqueiranne and the Toulon area display the usual offer: bric-a-brac, crockery, linen, books, vinyl, toys, clothing, trinkets, decor. Winter favours indoor items, linen, books and games for long evenings.
A popular quirk: no prior booking needed. Vendors simply arrive at Place de la République from 6am to collect their pitch. This simple formula run by the local merchants' association (ADIDAC) allows great flexibility.
Place de la République, Carqueiranne's beating heart, is lined with cafés, shops and terraces. After browsing, visitors can enjoy a seaside coffee or walk to the harbour.
Carqueiranne runs this format several times a year. January opens a cycle peaking in spring and summer.
On Sunday 11 January 2026, Place de la République launched its annual brocante cycle. Vendors took their pitches at 6am and regular visitors browsed until early afternoon. A discreet but faithful season opener.
