No stall reservation is necessary: exhibitors can set up freely in this medieval gem.
La Romieu owes its name to the pilgrims – the "arroumius" in Gascon – who stopped here on the Camino de Santiago. The village is dominated by the imposing collégiale Saint-Pierre, founded in the 14th century by Cardinal Arnaud d'Aux, a native of La Romieu and a close associate of Pope Clement V. This masterpiece of southern Gothic architecture includes a church, a cloister, and two towers, one of which houses a remarkable spiral staircase. The village also retains beautiful stone medieval houses, gardens, and the famous cat sculptures scattered throughout the streets, a tribute to a local legend.
The Art de Vie association enlivens the cultural and festive life of La Romieu throughout the year. The July 14th car boot sale is one of its flagship events, contributing to the vitality of this small village in Ténarèze. The association relies on the volunteer work and commitment of the inhabitants to keep this annual event alive in a spirit of Gascon conviviality and sharing.
The July 14th car boot sale offers an opportunity to combine treasure hunting with heritage visits. After browsing the flea market stalls – crockery, trinkets, clothes, books, small furniture, and everyday objects – visitors can explore the collegiate church, the cloister, climb to the top of the octagonal tower for panoramic views of the Gers countryside, and wander through the village in search of the cat sculptures. Restaurants and a refreshment stand on site allow for meals, while the July 14th festivities (concert, fireworks) extend the day into the evening.
