A Rural Flea Market in Haute-Marne

Damrémont (52400) is a small village in the northeast of Haute-Marne, in the Bourbonne-les-Bains area. The Damrémont flea market was traditionally organized there on a Sunday in June by the local association Damrémont loisirs, which gathered about forty exhibitors — private individuals and professionals — on Rue de la Cure, in the heart of the village.

The documented editions offered a good variety of items typical of rural Haute-Marne flea markets: clothes, crockery, books, toys, old tools, light furniture, trinkets. Admission for bargain hunters was free, as was the pitch for exhibitors. A refreshment stand and light catering enlivened the day, sometimes accompanied by a funfair.

Damrémont is a village whose name is linked to French military history — the Count of Damrémont, a general of the Empire, whose family originated from the region, gave his name to this commune. This historical past gives the village a particular identity that its inhabitants maintain.
