A flea market in the heart of the city of light

Each year in early August, the Union des Commerçants de Bourganeuf organizes a day of flea market and car boot sale in the streets of the town center. This popular event attracts bargain hunters from all over the region to this small town with character nestled in the heart of the Millevaches plateau, on the border of Creuse and Haute-Vienne.

Bourganeuf, a pioneer of electricity

Bourganeuf made history by becoming one of the first towns in France to be lit by electricity in 1886, thanks to the hydroelectric installation carried out by Marcel Deprez. The Zizim Tower, a 15th-century keep where Prince Djem, son of Sultan Mehmed II, was imprisoned, bears witness to the rich past of this former commandery of the Knights of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem.

A car boot sale in a heritage setting

The picturesque streets of Bourganeuf's town center, with their granite houses and slate roofs typical of Limousin, offer a charming setting for treasure hunting. Exhibitors offer a wide selection of items: furniture, tableware, trinkets, books, vinyl records, toys, and various second-hand items. The space is free for residents of the town, and offered at 2 euros per linear meter for external exhibitors.

The Millevaches plateau as a backdrop

Bourganeuf is the gateway to the Millevaches en Limousin Regional Natural Park, a territory of moors, peat bogs, and forests that appeals to nature lovers. The summer flea market is an opportunity to discover this preserved and authentic region, between bargain hunting and walks in the green landscapes of Creuse.
