Annual flea market and car boot sale in the streets of Arromanches-les-Bains, a key site of the D-Day landings
The Brocante Vide-Grenier of Arromanches-les-Bains is held annually in July in the streets of this emblematic commune of the D-Day landing beaches. Organized by the English and Italian twinning committees, this event takes over François Carpentier street, Cale Neptune, and Gilbert Longuet boulevard, in the heart of the seaside resort. From 8 am to 8 pm, individuals and professionals offer furniture, trinkets, collectibles, and curiosities in a friendly and summery atmosphere. Entry is free for visitors.
Every summer, Arromanches-les-Bains hosts its annual flea market in a unique historical setting. The streets of the town center transform into a vast open-air market where private individuals and professionals display their treasures just a stone's throw from the famous D-Day Museum and the remnants of the Mulberry artificial harbour. This event, organized by the English and Italian twinning committees, attracts bargain hunters and strollers to this small, history-rich seaside town in Calvados.
The stalls stretch along Rue François Carpentier, descend towards Cale Neptune, and continue along Boulevard Gilbert Longuet, offering a varied treasure hunt route in an exceptional maritime setting. Antique furniture, tableware, books, vinyl records, vintage toys, linens, trinkets, and collectibles are displayed side-by-side on the stalls, much to the delight of bargain hunters.
Arromanches-les-Bains is world-renowned for its role during the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944, and the remnants of its artificial harbour still visible from the beach. This small commune of 600 inhabitants, nestled between the cliffs of the Bessin region and the English Channel, offers a striking setting for a summer treasure hunting day. The flea market is part of the July festivities, a period when the seaside resort buzzes with commemorations and summer entertainment.
The Arromanches flea market often extends into the evening with an open-air concert and fireworks, making this day a highlight of the summer in Arromanches. Visitors can enjoy the restaurants and crêperies on the seafront to complete this day of history, treasure hunting, and seaside enjoyment.
