Summer flea market in the village of Vachères, famous for its Gaulish warrior
Every summer, the small village of Vachères hosts a flea market in its picturesque alleys. This perched village in Haute-Provence, located between Luberon and Montagne de Lure, offers an exceptional setting for a summer treasure hunting day.
Vachères is world-renowned in the archaeological community for the discovery of the Gaulish Warrior of Vachères, a stone statue of an armored warrior dating from the 1st century BC. The original is kept at the Calvet Museum in Avignon, but a reproduction stands in the village. This unique archaeological heritage adds a cultural dimension to the visit during the flea market.
Vachères is a characterful village preserved from mass tourism. Its stone houses, its medieval alleys, and its panoramas over the valley make it a timeless place. The flea market is set in this authentic decor, creating a unique atmosphere between heritage and treasure hunting.
The village is located in the heart of the Pays de Forcalquier, between Apt and Forcalquier. Visitors to the flea market can extend their day with a hike in the surrounding hills or a visit to the neighboring villages of Simiane-la-Rotonde and Oppedette.
