Large professional flea market on Whit Monday at the Place du Marché in Amboise, with views of the Loire and the castle
Every Whit Monday, the Place du Marché in Amboise transforms into a huge flea market bringing together between 200 and 300 exhibitors. This large-scale flea market, one of the most important in Touraine, features professional antique dealers and dealers from all over France, as well as individuals offering treasures from their attics. The setting is simply magnificent: the square offers a panoramic view of the Loire waters and the majestic silhouettes of the Royal Château d'Amboise, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
With several hundred stalls spread across the vast Place du Marché, the choice is considerable. Shoppers can find antique furniture — wardrobes, sideboards, period tables and chairs — Touraine tableware and earthenware, paintings, antique jewelry, silverware, books and prints, vinyl records, and curiosities of all kinds. The presence of many professionals guarantees quality pieces, while individuals often offer great finds at affordable prices. Visitors can also enjoy refreshments and food stalls on site.
The Whit Monday flea market is part of a long weekend that is ideal for discovering Amboise and the Loire Valley. After the morning's treasure hunt, visitors can stroll through the medieval streets of the town, visit the Clos Lucé and its gardens dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci, or cycle along the banks of the Loire on the Loire à Vélo route. Restaurants and wine tasting cellars in the town center offer Touraine specialties: rillettes, Sainte-Maure goat cheese, and Amboise appellation wines.
