The monthly flea market of Avranches — 30 professionals on Place Valhubert, from March to November
Les Bouquinistes Brocanteurs de la Baie organize a professional flea market every first Sunday of the month (from March to November) on Place Valhubert in Avranches (50300). With about thirty professionals, this monthly market is a meeting place for lovers of antiques and fine pieces in the south of Manche, at the gates of Mont-Saint-Michel.
Organized by the association Bouquinistes Brocanteurs de la Baie, the monthly flea market of Avranches takes place every first Sunday of the month from March to November, on Place Valhubert (50300). Around 30 professional exhibitors offer their treasures: antique furniture, curiosities, tableware, silverware, paintings, prints, old books, jewelry, watches, and many other carefully selected items.
The Place Valhubert, in the heart of the upper town of Avranches, offers a privileged setting for this professional flea market. Facing the botanical gardens with their famous panoramic view of the Mont-Saint-Michel Bay, the dealers' stalls are set up each month in an elegant and serene atmosphere. The quality of the goods offered — typical of professional markets — makes it a popular event for collectors and lovers of antique objects from all over the region.
From March to November, nine editions per year, the Avranches flea market punctuates the calendar of treasure hunters in the south of Manche. The professional dealers who run it are often the same from one edition to the next, creating a relationship of trust with their loyal customers. Word-of-mouth works well in this commercial and dynamic town that knows how to liven up its public spaces.
Avranches (50300) is a town of about 7,500 inhabitants, a sub-prefecture of Manche, perched on a rocky outcrop offering one of the most beautiful panoramas of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel. It is here that Saint Michael is said to have appeared to Bishop Aubert in 708, giving birth to the cult that would lead to the construction of Mont-Saint-Michel.
The town has a rich heritage: the scriptorium of the Mont-Saint-Michel abbey left a remarkable collection of medieval manuscripts, preserved at the media library. The Jardin des Plantes offers its panoramic terrace overlooking the bay, and the Saint-André cathedral dominates the upper town. Avranches is also known for its connection with General Patton, whose August 1944 breakthrough bears his name.
