Moncontour's brocante, a Loudunais rendezvous

Moncontour-de-Poitou, northern Vienne commune listed as Petite Cité de Caractère, holds its annual brocante each 1 May in the village centre. The 2026 edition is on Friday 1 May, 6 am to 6 pm, organised by AGAV. Sellers — private and professional — take over the cobbled streets around the medieval keep, one of France's tallest still-visible medieval donjons.

An outstanding medieval setting

What makes Moncontour stand out is its backdrop: the 25-metre keep on its natural mound, cobbled lanes, white tuffeau facades, tile roofs. Chining here is already a time trip before you even look at the stalls.

Besides the keep, Moncontour keeps fine medieval traces: rampart remains, half-timbered houses, Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, old wells. Part of the Petites Cités de Caractère network.

35 km north of Poitiers (RN10 + D347), 20 km from Loudun, 40 km from Thouars. Parking at village entrance with signposting.
